MGR NG Hard

Preface

  • Resources used to learn: meka doc and Metal Gear Speedruns Wiki
  • Pressing Jump will make Raiden recover fast unless you get wall’d
  • If needed to move during BM (Blade Mode) Hold L3 while tilting the stick
  • Do not always depend on Perfect Parry since in some situation the enemy decide to just dodge or screw up the stun for the launcher
  • During PJ process (Polearm Jump) if you want to enter BM you have to quickly cancel the second attack of pole-arm with light attack

Alt+Tab Buy List

  • Before Wolf: Commando suit, HF +1 Power
  • Before PR nade setup (Final skip before Mistral): Inferno suit, Offense Defense, Sky High
  • Result Screen: Polearm +1
  • End of R-02: Both weapon +2, Aerial Parry, Falling Thunder
  • End of R-03: Both weapon +3
  • End of R-05: White Armor, Pincer Blade +4, Buy all Pincer Blade Skills

R-00

  • Clear soldiers with the palm setup BM Air Heavy
  • Ray 1 is RNG: Ideally you want to guard his head twice > tail > left feet ? During the head guard phase you have to land some air combo before aerial guard through BM cancel
  • The movement before Ray 2 cut the pipes
  • Ray 2 is consistent. Make the HP threshold into 80% then prepare to guard the head. This is set up for skipping missile BM phase and such.
  • Train movement use slide to land down quicker
  • Sam Jump at him to trigger combo pattern hit him once hp is 50% then jump at the right angle to do that again. For the final phase go back from the left angle till sam approaches you turn around then attack him

R-01

  • BM slide setup at the first fight
  • The fights before Wolf depends on how well you utilize BM
  • Killing Wolf fast depends on your position. It doesn’t matter how the fight starts what’s more important is the position on where you shoot the Homing Missiles.
  • I used Zefie’s cycle but cramer method seems really good.
  • Chopper can give you really bad pattern at times. You only need 2 Homing Missiles
  • Mistral is pure timing based here is how cramer does the fight

R-02

  • Don’t auto-pilot Ninja Run while stealth. Apparently, that makes them have a good hearing.
  • By the end of this Mission you should have 4 EM nades left
  • Grad is a huge problem because you need to have a good Sky High cancels.
  • If he moves around like Ferrari Car stop it with Pole-Arm combo.

R-03

  • For the quick elevator wait for the second guy to come out make sure that you are not doing Ninja Run after you land
  • To get out of Roof Top elevator quickly, make of the red dot then do HF launcher combo.
  • Really easy to mess up on the metro skip. Set up the angle with the camera to your right. Then once you are close to the ceilings release forward then hold right.

Monsoon start up with nade into Ninja Run heavy then you can stun him for sky high. His phase skip doesn’t seem to make sense to me yet because you have to setup for 68% HP at the end of phase 1 then during the second phase you want 3 key things.

  • Lower his hp down to 54% then wait for him to do smoke chains so you can use then rockets into the wall then bring his hp down to 41%
  • The way you get his HP down to 40% is by slide into BM slashes. If you keep whiffing his body during BM mode which forces Monsoon to insult you then you already entered the final phase without letting him do the cut scene stuff.
  • Bring his 27% to do his Smoke pattern this time you use up all of your nades to get his final QTE (10%)

R-04

  • Longest segment in the run (15 minutes). Probably need to play multiple time to get familiar with the map
  • Most of the time seems like min-maxing the ripper mode.
  • You need to get all the launchers. The Homing one is important during elevator fight.
  • AI-Mistral RM pole loop. Diet-Monsoon is similar to the first encounter but you kill him more quickly with rockets this time.
  • Sundowner is a free and consistent boss and always starts with charge. This allows you to get behind him and do about 3 Sky High cancels to launch him into Pole-Arm BM Cancel loop.

R-05

  • Actually fun mission
  • Start with back dodge offense before the codec call
  • Smoke Bomb to the left side for stealth setup
  • Do not skip result until you enter the fountain fight
  • Gekko movement need more practice
  • Lighting Fall setup for the last wave
  • In General this is a movement mission

R-06

  • Buying Fuel +1 might be useful
  • You have to keep looping Sam with guard break for each knock back (Ripper Mode Slide)
  • Manage the energies well
  • Good cycle (Long Taunt) : CP2 RM > dodge > CP3 RM last hit > Dodge > CP1 > Dodge > CP2 RM > Dodge > CP1 > Dodge > CP2 RM > CP3 > Guard break with RM slide then P1 into CP2 RM
  • If you don’t get the Long Taunt then after CP2 RM then slide heavy RM into P1> CP2 RM instead of dodge > CP3 RM last hit

R-07

  • Excelsus will always go the same way. You just need to make sure his hp is less than 30% before the 6 laser shooting phase. This will make him quote “Impressive Jack”
  • your HP after that fight needs to be at 45% for Armstrong 2 setup
  • Stick will probably break with Sky High Cancels during Armstrong 3
  • First phase ends when his HP is at 160%
  • To skip his healing phase figure out a way to get the HP below 62% after the first rock throw
  • You can interrupt his final rock throw before the final QTE if you block his dash with a dive kick.
